Know Your Air Passenger Rights
Find clear answers to frequent air passenger rights questions.
In what situations can I get European flight compensation?
You can get European flight compensation if:
✅ Your flight was delayed by 3+ hours (it’s calculated at the destination).
✅ Your flight was canceled less than 14 days before departure.
✅ You were denied boarding due to overbooking.
Can I get EU flight compensation if I don’t have travel insurance?
Yes, you can get EU flight compensation with no travel insurance. The steps are exactly the same – you file a claim, and if your flight is eligible for compensation, you should be getting money from the airline.
Can I get flight compensation for my children?
Yes, you can. In fact, you can apply for all your family members and friends. The only thing to remember is that the adults will have to sign the papers themselves. Other than that, it can be done by you (one person acting on behalf of others).
What are air passenger rights in the UK?
In the UK, the air passenger rights rules and regulations are almost exactly the same as in the EU. You are protected in almost all the same situations, and the compensation amounts are also identical. The Regulation UK261, as it’s known in the industry, states the same rights as EC261/2004.
Is my flight protected by the European Flight Compensation Regulation?
What airline did you fly with? If it’s a European airline, the regulation applies to all flights. If it isn’t, the regulation applies only to flights departing from Europe (EU, EEA, and the UK). You can check that yourself on the official website of the European Union.
Is my flight eligible for EU flight compensation?
Did you arrive at least 2 hours late? Was it the airline’s fault? If the answer is yes and yes, then you might be entitled to EU flight compensation (there’s a 90% chance). Use our claim form to check the eligibility.
What is considered the airline’s fault?
Everything that the airline has control over is considered the airline’s responsibility. It also includes technical problems with the airplane and airline staff strikes.
Are technical problems extraordinary circumstances?
No, in most cases, technical problems with the airplane are considered the airline’s fault, and you can get compensation if your flight is delayed or cancelled because of that.
Can I get a refund if my flight is canceled?
Yes, you can get a full refund. If it happens up to 14 days before the day of departure, and it’s due to the airline’s fault, in Europe, you can get both a refund AND flight cancellation compensation.
Can I get flight cancellation compensation if the airline provided me with a new flight?
Yes, you can get compensation too. First, the airline has to do that – it has to help you get to your destination (mostly, it means that the airline is providing a new flight for free). Second, if, as a result of this cancellation, you arrive at your destination at least 2 hours late, you may also be entitled to flight cancellation compensation.
Is my baggage protected too?
Yes, your baggage is protected against loss and damage. This is regulated by the Montreal Convention 1999 (MC99). The best thing is that you have this protection on most flights with most airlines globally. Contact the airline to get damaged baggage compensation/lost baggage compensation.
How can I claim compensation for denied boarding?
If you’re denied boarding against your will, you are entitled to denied boarding compensation. As long as your flight falls under the European Flight Compensation Regulation.
